How do I know if I need therapy?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling to cope with daily life, talking to a counsellor may help. Common signs you may benefit from therapy include:

• Persistent anxiety or low mood

• Difficulty managing stress

• Problems in relationships

• Past trauma affecting your present

•Loss of motivation or sense of purpose

Even if you’re unsure, reaching out for mental health support can be the first step toward positive change.

I want to access counselling, what next?

Rose and Jazz offer a free 15 minute phone/online discussion where you will be offered the time and space to discuss your reasons for wanting to come to counselling and work through any concerns you may have. It is important you find the right counsellor for you, therefore it is vital to use this time to assess whether the counsellor is a 'good fit'. Doing this will ensure you get the best from your counselling experience. Once deciding you would like to go ahead with counselling, your counsellor will talk you through the next steps of your counselling journey.

What happens in the first counselling session?

The first session is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know each other. You’ll discuss what brought you to therapy, your goals, and what you’d like to achieve. The counsellor may ask some background questions to understand your situation better. It’s also your chance to ask any questions about how therapy works.

Is everything I say in therapy confidential?

Yes, counselling is confidential. This means what you share stays between you and your therapist. The only exceptions are if there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. Your therapist will explain confidentiality clearly during your first session so you feel safe and supported.

How long does counselling take?

The length of therapy varies depending on your needs and goals. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (6–12 sessions) focused on specific issues, while others may prefer longer-term support for deeper exploration. Your counsellor will work with you to review progress and agree on what feels right for you.

How long and how often are sessions?

Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes and can take place either in person or through online counselling. Many clients choose to attend weekly therapy sessions, as attending consistently helps build momentum and supports meaningful progress. Counselling is an investment in your mental health, and regular sessions provide the space to work through challenges effectively. If you feel you may benefit from fortnightly or less frequent sessions, this can be discussed with your counsellor so the pace feels right for you.

How much do sessions cost?

Rose and Jazz offer a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your counselling journey and answer any initial questions.

50-minute in-person counselling session or online therapy session: starting from £60

This gives you the flexibility to choose the type of support that fits best with your lifestyle, whether you prefer meeting face-to-face or online.

Can I have online therapy?

Yes. Online counselling (via video call or phone) is a flexible option for many people. Research shows online therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face sessions, especially for anxiety, stress, and depression. It can also be more convenient if you have a busy schedule or mobility issues.
